The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The first curtain went up on February 26, 1991 and has since developed into a multi-level theater and entertainment complex. The Center is
situated on a 5 1/2 acre site on the north bank of the New River at Sailboat Bend. This Center started the cultural renovation of the area and is now known as the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District in Fort Lauderdale. Architect Benjamin C. Thompson designed the center which now is the cultural heart of Broward County.
